On the 27th May, in Barcelona, the riot police entered into Plaça Catalunya, where the “Indignados” from Barcelona were staying for the last eleven days. They said it was just to clean the square, but all materials of the “Indignados” (PCs, tables, food, generators, petrol, lists of people, mattresses, blankets…) were put into lorries and removed from the square.
The police arrived at 6 o’clock in the morning. The few hundreds of “Indignados” that were sleeping in the square were held in the middle, surrounded by a lot of police. There wasn’t any violent reaction by the “Indignados”. But lots of Twitters and Facebook messages were sent through the net telling the people that they were held by the police in the middle of Plaça Catalunya, for more than four hours. The reaction of the citizens from Barcelona came immediately. If till that moment the number of policemen was incredibly big for the barely two hundred “Indignados” that were sleeping in the square, suddenly they became very few. Thousands of people (children, parents and grandparents) were reaching Plaça Catalunya from all the different streets that drive to the square. Now, they were the ones surrounding the police and asking for the freedom of the “Indignados”.
The biggest repression that there has been against the movement 15M and its supporters was about to start, with 121 injured people.
In spite of there wasn’t any violent reaction by the 15M movement, finally, the large amount of people that surrounded the police forced them to go. After eight hard hours, the square became again the main centre of the movement 15M in Barcelona.
